The University of South Dakota is the comprehensive liberal arts university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional programs within the South Dakota System of Higher Education. USD is the state's oldest university and is designated as the only public liberal arts university in South Dakota. This is a big-time university with a small-college feel.
Overview USD has an average class size of 26 and a 15:1 student to faculty ratio. With a long tradition of excellence and a place in the NCAA Division I, USD is also home to South Dakota's only law and medical schools, college of fine arts and AACSB accredited school of business. Over the past three years, $145 million has been spent on facilities. Undergraduate research is offered to students and with a low student to faculty ratio, it is easy to get involved in this signature program.
Rankings USD is ranked among the Top 376 Colleges in the nation by The Princeton Review in 2012 — the only school in South Dakota to hold this honor. USD is also listed as one of the Best National Universities by U.S. News & World Report.
